The Blue Jackets Hockey League is a city-wide, local hockey program for boys and girls aged 5 to 10 years old. The Blue Jackets Hockey League follows the American Development Model and long-term athlete development principles to help kids reach their full potential. Players will be supported by USA Hockey certified volunteer coaches and Blue Jackets Hockey League Development Coaches.

There are two "seasons" for participants to choose that allow players to participate in one or both "seasons." Players entering the Winter Season will be placed on new or existing teams which will be determined by the number of registrations.

The Blue Jackets Hockey League offers age-appropriate programming and is dedicated to providing a world-class experience.

TEAM FORMATION

After the Hockey is Back Assessment skates, players will be placed on age and developmentally appropriate teams. Grouping players by age and skill level will allow players to be challenged at the appropriate level. We hope to have at least two volunteer coaches per team.

Our goal is to provide the "Goldilocks" level of challenge for all players. Players will be placed on teams with the best interests of all players, families, and coaches within the Blue Jackets Hockey League.

If you have a specific request, (i.e., playing with a family member or specific coach), there will be a spot on the registration to communicate. We cannot guarantee any requests but will try to accommodate.

At 10U, we hope to make all girls teams at each rink. Formation of all girls’ teams it is dependent on the number of female players who register, the breakdown of their age and skill level, any special requests, and volunteer parent coaching availability.

At this stage, participants continue to develop movement abilities across multiple sports and in a wide variety of environments. In ice hockey, players continue to increase their attunement to the appropriate environmental cues that allow them greater movement adaptability and hockey sense.

In late specialization sports such as ice hockey, early specialization can be detrimental to later stages of development. Participants should develop a solid base in a variety of sports in each of the physical literacy environments (e.g., swimming, athletics, gymnastics & skiing/skating).
