Blue Jackets Hockey League Overview

The Blue Jackets Hockey League, presented by Tim Hortons, is a local, city-wide hockey program for boys and girls ages 5 to 14. Our league follows the American Development Model and long-term athlete development principles to help young players grow, build confidence, and enjoy the game.

Registration Dates

  • Registration: May 19-June 19, 2026
  • If spots are still available, we will reopen registration: June 30 - July 14, 2026.

Registration Options

Option A: September-February

  • 6U and 8U - $814
  • 10U - $1024
  • 12U and 14U - $1049
Available for all ages.
Guarantee your spot for the entire Blue Jackets Hockey League Season.

 

Option B: September-December

  • 6U and 8U - $446
  • 10U - $693
Available only for 6U, 8U, and 10U.
Great for players that are new to the team aspect of hockey and want to try it out before committing to the full season.

 

Option C: January-February

  • 6U and 8U - $446
  • 10U - $649
Available only for 6U, 8U, and 10U.
Registration for Option C will open in September

 

Option D: April- May

  • Program details will be announced in January 2027.
  • Available only for 6U, 8U, and 10U players that have recently graduated Learn to Play or Option C only players with no prior Blue Jackets Hockey League experience.
  • Registration for Option D will open in January, 2027

All-Girls Teams

New this season, the Blue Jackets Hockey League intends to offer all-girls teams* for female players in the 12U/14U (born 2012-2015) age categories. All-girls teams, if formed, will be combined age-group teams (12U & 14U) and will compete in the 12U co-ed division. Practice environments and home rink assignments will be determined prior to player assessments based on interest. Participation on an all-girls team will be optional for eligible female players.

Female players in the 12U/14U age categories will have the following registration options for the 2026-27 season:

  • 12U/14U All-Girls Option - Open to all female players born between 2012-2015. Games will be played in the 12U co-ed division.
  • 12U Co-ed - Open to all players born between 2014-2015. Placement on a co-ed team.
  • 14U Co-ed - Open to all players born between 2012-2013. Placement on a co-ed team.

*All-girls teams will be decided based on overall registration numbers as of June 2nd, including skaters, goalies, and coaching availability.

Typical Weekly Schedule

10U, 12U, and 14U:

  • Average of 3 Ice Sessions per week
  • 2x Practice Sessions at your home rink
  • 1x Full Ice Games*

*Games will be played throughout Central Ohio rinks.
*10U will play some games on modified ice to align with best practice recommendations for this age group.

6U and 8U:

  • 2 Ice Sessions per week
  • 2x Practice Sessions at your home rink
  • 1x Game Day at your home rink*

*Games will be played at your home rink, except for special events (see season schedule for event dates) and played on modified ice surfaces.

Team Placement

At the beginning of the season, the players will participate in assessment skates. During the assessment skates, players will be divided based on experience and into the most age and developmentally appropriate teams. Assessments will take place in phases, depending on age group and experience. Please plan on attending all assigned sessions.

  • 14U: September 10-25 - 3 sessions
  • 10U and 12U: September 12-25 - 3 sessions
  • 6U and 8U: September 26-October 2 - 2 sessions

*Your player’s exact assessment schedule will be released a month prior to the start of assessments.*

Pre-Requisites

Completion of the CBJ Learn to Play Hockey Series (1, 2, and 3) and/or previous playing experience in the Blue Jackets Hockey League or comparable ice hockey experience.

Your player will need a 2026-27 USA Hockey Membership. This can be completed before Blue Jackets Hockey League Registration opens. Please allow up to 48 hours for USA Hockey Membership Confirmation to process.

Required Gear

League Provided

  • One Blue Jackets Hockey League reversible jersey
  • Home and away hockey socks

Player Provided

  • Helmet with cage
  • Gloves, elbow pads, shoulder pads, shin pads, jock/jill, hockey pants
  • Hockey stick
  • Hockey skates
  • Neck laceration protection (neck guard)
  • Mouth Guard (recommended for all ages, required for 12U and 14U)

Goaltending Equipment

  • At 6U and 8U, goaltending equipment will be provided by the Blue Jackets Hockey League, and everyone will have the chance to play goalie.
  • At 10U, each team will have a league provided set of goalie gear for players to rotate during the season, if necessary.
  • At 12U and 14U players will need to provide their own goalie gear.

Volunteer Opportunities

The league thrives on volunteers in both on-ice and off-ice roles.

  • On-ice: Coaches and goalie coaches - skating ability is not necessary
  • Off-ice: Team manager, social manager, equipment manager

Volunteer Information and Registration

Scholarships

The Blue Jackets Hockey League is committed to making hockey accessible to all families. Scholarships are available and awarded based on financial need, with support ranging up to 100% of the registration cost.

Each application is reviewed individually to ensure we are supporting families in a meaningful and responsible way.

As part of the program, all scholarship recipients agree to support the league by volunteering for at least one fundraising or league event.

The deadline for scholarship applications is June 16, 2026, please apply at this link. Applying for a scholarship automatically reserves your player’s spot in the Blue Jackets Hockey League. All applicants will be notified of determination prior to July 1, 2026.

Refund Policy

OPTION A and B:

  • Refund requests made prior to August 10, 2026, will receive a full refund minus a $75 administrative fee.
  • Refund requests made on or after August 10, 2026, and prior to September 10, 2026, will receive a full refund minus a $150 administrative fee.
  • Refund requests will not be accepted on or after September 10, 2026.
